new york fashion week
February 16th and September 6th of 2019 were two of the most pivotal dates in my fashion experience…my very first showcases during NYFW. To see my name plastered on the walls at a venue in the heart of Manhattan is a moment I will never forget. I had the honor to team up with other incredibly talented designers to display our hard work down the runway. After going to FIT and having professors sometimes challenge my “futuristic” visions for womenswear, it was more than rewarding to see it appreciated by so many people in the crowd.
Seconds before my models were about to walk out, my heart was racing and tears were welling up in my eyes at the thought of how proud my 11 year-old self would be. I decided to model my clothes and walk last in the lineup to integrate my passion for modeling with the showcase. I had made it so far since I had hand sewn a coin purse in seventh grade with nothing but a dream and a thread and needle. This point in time will be one I am eternally grateful for and marks the time my childhood dreams came to life right before my eyes.
